Plant Symbolism

Plants have long carried stories, meanings, and symbolism across cultures, traditions, folklore, and healing practices. Since ancient times, people have turned to nature not only for beauty and medicine, but also for comfort, protection, and connection.

I’ve always been drawn to the idea that plants carry an energy and symbolism of their own, and that the things we choose to wear can hold meaning too. This page is a growing collection of the botanicals used in Rosa Alchimia pieces and their knowledge, exploring their historical symbolism alongside the personal inspiration behind each collection.

I like to believe that carrying real botanicals allows us to keep a small piece of nature close, something meaningful to wear, connect with, and weave into our own story.

Symbolism

For centuries, roses have symbolised love, beauty, mystery, and hidden truths. Across mythology, literature, and folklore, they appear as symbols of devotion, passion, and the balance between softness and strength. Different rose colours also carry their own meanings: yellow ones are often associated with friendship, optimism, and joy, while orange tones symbolise enthusiasm, passion, and energy.

In alchemical traditions, the rose was sometimes referred to as the Flower of the Wise and became a symbol of Coniunctio — the union of opposites — representing transformation, wholeness, and the process of becoming. In alchemical imagery, it was also associated with perfected silver and gold, symbolising the completion of inner and spiritual transformation.

Medicinal & Practical Uses

Roses have long been used in perfumes, teas, skincare, and herbal remedies. Rose petals and rose hips are valued for their fragrance, antioxidant properties, and vitamin C content.

Citrus Bloom Collection

For Rosa Alchimia’s first collection, Citrus Bloom, I chose the rose variety ‘Oranges and Lemons’, drawn to its warm citrus-toned striped petals and the unexpected beauty of a flower where no two petals are ever alike. There is a quiet magic in the way each flower unfolds, in colours meeting unexpectedly, in becoming without force or hurry, and in nature’s reminder that growth does not happen all at once.

Citrus Bloom celebrates individuality, transformation, and the unhurried beauty of becoming. In an ever-rushing world, it is an invitation to slow down and trust the process of growth, unfolding gently in its own time.

Why Rosa Alchimia?

Rosa is my surname, but it also carries a deeper symbolism. In alchemical imagery, the rose is the symbol of perfected silver and gold, materials that are central
to my work and to the idea of transformation itself.

Alchimia, in its medieval Latin form, is a blend of early science, philosophy, and experimentation. it speaks to change: the process of turning something
ordinary into something precious. It reflects exactly what happens in each piece, a fleeting natural fragment, preserved and transformed into jewellery made to last.

Together, Rosa Alchimia represents the meeting of nature, memory, and craftsmanship, where something ephemeral becomes permanent.
